Design and Color Separation:

The first step is to create a design that is suitable for printing. The design should be created with the final printed product in mind, including the type of garment, the size of the print, and the colors to be used. Once the design is approved, it needs to be color-separated into individual colors. This is typically done digitally, with specialized software. The colors in the design are separated into individual layers, and each layer represents a color that will be printed separately.

Screen Production

Once the color separations are complete, the screens are produced. Each color separation is printed onto a separate sheet of film, which is then used to burn a screen for each color. The screen is coated with a light-sensitive emulsion, and the film is placed on top of the screen. The screen is exposed to light, causing the emulsion to harden except where the design blocks the light. The unexposed emulsion is then washed away, leaving a stencil of the design on the screen.

Printing

Once the screens are prepared, the printing can begin. The garment is placed on the press, and the screens are aligned so that each color will print in the correct location. Ink is applied to the first screen, and then the squeegee is used to press the ink through the stencil and onto the garment. The garment is then moved to the next platen, and the process is repeated with the next color. This process is repeated for each color in the design until the final product is complete. Once the printing is done, the garment is cured to set the ink, typically using heat.

Quality Control

The final step is to inspect the product for quality. This includes checking for registration, color accuracy, and print consistency. If any issues are found, the garment may need to be reprinted. Once the inspection is complete, the screens, tools, and equipment are cleaned and put away, and the printed garments are folded and packaged for shipment or pickup. Quality control and cleanup are crucial to ensuring that the final product meets the client’s expectations and is ready for use.
